The Art of Powder Manufacturing
This process is a prime example of rapid solidification, where liquid metal is shattered into billions of tiny droplets:
The Setup: A large furnace melts high-purity metal (such as steel, aluminum, or titanium) into a liquid state. This molten metal is then poured into a specialized "tundish" that controls the flow rate into the atomization chamber.
The Atomization Process : As the stream of molten metal falls through a nozzle, it is hit by high-pressure jets of gas (usually argon or nitrogen) or water.
