INAuto-refractor: What does it do?
As you look inside, towards the house at the end (or the classic hot air balloon), the auto refractor shines light into your eye, measuring how it bounces off the back of the eye. While the image is blurring in and out, it’s figuring out when your eye is best focused and gives your optometrist an estimate of your myopia, hyperopia, or astigmatism.
Optometrist don’t typically prescribe glasses based off an autorefraction for a variety of reasons, but they can use it as a starting point or reference while they figure out your exact prescription.
