When a child experiences challenging behavior in therapy, a good therapist will respond with empathy, validate the child’s feelings, and maintain a calm and objective demeanor. They may use techniques like active listening, positive language, and de-escalation strategies to address the situation. Here’s our therapist meeting the child where he is. She is calm, validating his needs and giving him time to express himself. When a child experiences challenging behavior in therapy, a good therapist will respond with empathy. Here’s a more detailed look at how a good therapist might respond: Empathy and Validation Calm and Objective Communication Redirect the child’s attention to the activity they are working on when the time is right ! There are so many ways to help a young child dealing with stress or trauma. Getting down, leaning in, just as our therapist is doing looking into their eyes, and being deeply attuned can be the gentle touch that they need. Do contact us if you need any training or support to manage challenging behaviours. #ableuk #ableukdubai #childdevelopment #occupationaltherapy #sensoryintegrationtherapy #overwhelmedchildren #tantrums #meltdowns #aba #ableukfamily

Developing waiting skills in special children—such as those with autism spectrum disorder (ASD), ADHD, or intellectual disabilities—can yield a range of behavioral, cognitive, and social improvements. In behavior therapy, teaching children how to wait appropriately is a foundational skill that supports broader developmental goals. Here’s how it helps: 🔑 Key Improvements from Developing Waiting Skills (1).Improved Self-Regulation: ▶️Benefit: Children learn to manage impulses and tolerate delayed gratification. ▶️Why it matters: This reduces the likelihood of tantrums, aggression, or self-injurious behavior when their needs aren’t met immediately. (2).Reduction in Challenging Behaviors: ▶️Benefit: Problem behaviors (e.g., screaming, hitting, bolting) often stem from the inability to wait or cope with denial. ▶️Why it matters: Replacing those behaviors with appropriate waiting responses reduces stress for the child and caregiver. (3).Increased Independence: ▶️Benefit: Children who can wait without constant adult intervention are more independent in various settings. ▶️Why it matters: This supports inclusion in school, therapy, and community environments. (4). Better Social Functioning: ▶️Benefit: Waiting is a critical skill in social settings—turn-taking in games, waiting in line, or during conversations. ▶️Why it matters: It enables better peer interactions and fosters friendships. (5). Enhanced Attention and Learning: ▶️Benefit: Waiting involves sustaining attention, which supports classroom learning and following multi-step instructions. ▶️Why it matters: Many academic and daily tasks require patience and persistence. . . . . 📍Location: Kanpur ☎️ Contact Us: +91-6392681521 👉 Call-to-action: "DM to Enrol" . . . . #specialneedsparenting #behaviortherapy #parentingtips #teachingpatience #behaviorIntervention #positiveparenting #autismsupport #ADHDAwareness #intellectualdisability #autismacceptance #neurodivergentkids #supportforspecialneeds #waitingskills #selfregulation #emotionalregulation #socialskillstraining #impulsecontrol #behaviormanagement #turntaking #copingskillsforkids #reels #follow #viral #trending #sparkle

That’s not “bad behavior.” That’s a nervous system that’s overwhelmed. And I need more parents to understand this 👇🏼 When a child is: • screaming • hitting • shutting down • melting down over “small” things …it’s not because they’re trying to be difficult. It’s because they don’t have the tools yet to handle what they’re feeling. This is where OT comes in. We help kids: • recognize what they’re feeling • regulate their body before it escalates • respond instead of react Because the goal isn’t to “fix behavior” …it’s to support the nervous system behind it And when that clicks? You get: • less chaos • fewer meltdowns • more connection • a child who actually feels understood Not “too much” Not “bad” Not “dramatic” Just a kid who needs support 🤍

There are important benefits to redirecting a special child’s self-regulating behavior in a positive way. When children with special needs (such as autism, ADHD, or sensory processing difficulties) engage in self-regulating behaviors — like rocking, flapping, or repeating sounds — they’re often trying to calm themselves, manage sensory input, or express unmet needs. Instead of stopping these behaviors abruptly, gentle redirection can help them learn healthier or more purposeful ways to regulate. Here are the main benefits: 🌈Improves Emotional Control– Redirecting helps the child recognize emotions (like frustration, anxiety, or excitement) and use safer or more socially acceptable ways to express them — such as deep breathing, squeezing a stress ball, or asking for a break. 🧠Builds Self-Awareness– It teaches the child to identify what they feel and why they react a certain way. Over time, this increases emotional intelligence and self-understanding. 🤲Encourages Positive Coping Skills– Through redirection, children learn new coping strategies — like calming techniques, movement breaks, or sensory tools — that they can use independently in the future. 👀Reduces Harmful or Disruptive Behaviors– Some self-regulating behaviors may be unsafe or socially inappropriate (like head-banging or loud vocal stimming). Redirecting these into safer alternatives helps keep the child and others safe without suppressing their needs. 🗣️Supports Communication– Redirection often involves teaching communication skills — helping the child express discomfort, request help, or say “I need a break,” instead of resorting to repetitive or harmful behaviors. 🌟 Strengthens Learning and Focus– When children learn to regulate their bodies and emotions effectively, they can focus better on learning tasks, follow routines, and engage more fully in therapy or classroom activities. . . . . 📍Location: Kanpur ☎️ Contact Us: +91-6392681521 👉 Call-to-action: "DM to Enrol" . . . . #selfregulation #emotionaldevelopment #behaviorsupport #positiveredirection #calmchild #emotionalcontrol #copingskills #selfawareness #autismawareness #adhdsupport #reels #explore #explorepage

All behavior is communication. The real question isn’t what your child is doing, it’s why. When you pause and look beyond the surface, you may discover that behaviors are your child’s way of asking for connection, support, or help with a skill they haven’t mastered yet. Here’s a glimpse into what some behaviors can really mean, because understanding leads to growth, not just reaction.⁣ ⁣ ✨ Every behavior tells a story.
