NEFollow @neurotician to understand brain science and psychology
Binary thinking — the sense that you have only two choices, both heavy, both urgent — is one of the clearest signs that fear has taken over.
Joe Hudson explains that when the nervous system is activated, the mind collapses nuance.
Complexity feels dangerous, so the brain tries to force a quick escape: yes or no, stay or go, succeed or fail.
But real clarity never shows up as “either/or.” It shows up as space, curiosity, and options you couldn’t see while afraid.
The moment you notice your thinking narrowing into extremes, you’re not in truth — you’re in fear.
Recognizing that is the first step back to yourself.
