When a PLA or cornstarch bag from manufacturers like @biobag or sustainable bag innovators like @baggu and @ecoright ends up in a standard municipal landfill, it doesn't magically turn into soil. Deprived of sunlight and oxygen, it gets buried alive. For those of us tracking the clean energy transition, this is an infrastructure nightmare. Instead of composting, the bag undergoes anaerobic digestion and pumps out Methane—a greenhouse gas 80x more potent than CO2. While agencies like the @epagov and the Global Methane Hub spend billions trying to capture these fugitive landfill emissions, we are accidentally manufacturing more of it in our kitchens. Furthermore, it wastes the massive "embodied energy" (the grid power used to manufacture and ship the bag) just to create a toxic gas leak. While policymakers at the @moefccgoi champion the #missionlife movement to fix our broken waste cycle, true circularity guided by the @ellenmacarthurfoundation means bypassing the factory entirely.
