BLReposted from @bodyreadymethod Realizing that body patterns and labor patterns often go together was a huge lightbulb moment for me. As an Exercise Physiologist turned birth doula, I could not NOT start to noticing that certain patterns tended to have an easier time with certain phases and a more challenging time with other phases of the process. I knew I was onto something and I knew I needed to get this into the hands of everyone and anyone who would listen. Now I teach this work to hundreds of professionals a year and help tens of thousands of families per year get their body’s ready, specifically! Rad, right?
Let’s look at a common pattern that tends to go along with typically a pretty smooth pushing phase (we know there are many other factors, here, so this is majorly generalizing), but often physiologically we may see more of a struggle with prodromal labor, stop/start contraction pattern, or just a really long time getting baby INTO the pelvis. Once these babies get past the mid pelvis it tends to be smooth sailing, but getting them there may take longer.
With this pattern we tend to see a big arch in the lower back and ribs thrusted up (think “chest up, shoulders back” yes we were taught this is ‘good posture’ and I’m here to tell you it’s not). We also may note pronation of the feet and more access to internal hip rotation. These folks are bias towards an ‘open’ outlet, but a more narrowed inlet. So it makes sense that the inlet would be a more likely place for a hold up, yes??
The beautiful thing about body patterns? We can shift them because they’re based on how we use our bodies! That is the magic of prenatal prep with the Body Ready Method! We can prepare.
If you want more and are ready to get BODY READY, check out our prenatal program. If you want a specific done for you assessment and exercises specific to your unique body, please consider a 1:1 session with a BRM Pro! They are located all over the globe and many offer virtual sessions.
Do you tend towards this anterior tilt or are you more of a butt tucker like me (the last get body ready video on the feed)?
PS We have talked about these 3 tools at length in other videos and in our pro
