KAOn this #NationalSerpentDay, we want to share some incredible clips of Burmese python Louise while shedding! The animal care team will often find a snake’s shed after the process has been completed, but recently Louise gave the public a close-up glimpse of the action. At approximately 15-feet in length and 25 years of age, Louise will shed her skin about four times per year. While humans shed their skin in extremely small quantities and never at one time, snakes will typically shed a full piece several times per year through ecdysis. Snakes are an example of indeterminate growth, which means they grow their entire life, but that growth slows as they age.
Learn more Louise at the informational snake chat at her habitat daily at 1 pm!
