I kickoff my series of Thrifting Gems, for those of you who - like us, love to find treasure! Neil and I love history and we love flea markets, you never know what you are going to find and we have seen the most incredible things With the weather so crazy every single weekend it has been hard this season to do as much of the outdoor fun stuff, however, this is New England and we have the cozy vibes down!!!! Wright's Barn & Flea Market 104 Wright Rd Torrington, CT 860-482-0095 ONLY OPEN ON WEEKENDS To begin with, the barn itself is on the National Register of Historic Places. The actual origins are vague with a likely building date in the 1800's and the history picks up when the property was purchased by the Wrights and ran a dairy farm here from 1930-1950's. In the 60's and 70's they converted the space into a place for kids to hear music and dance. In 1980 - they decided to turn the space into an indoor flea market. They added a second floor and over time, added an adorable cafe where everything served is made from scratch. Not only is it tasty - but so affordable! They were selling coffee, tea and cans of soda for $1 - and the cookie was better than many bakeries we have been to! We are just sorry we did not get the grilled cheese that day. The fire was cranking and we took a seat right next to it to enjoy our drinks and some laughter. Soon, we were off and exploring both floors. It was such a great collection here - on the one hand we got movies and cds for $1 and on the other, they had some lovely items that I would love in my home! Make a half day of it and hit downtown Torrington as well before you head out of the area. #torrington #ct #connecticut #fleamarket #thrifting #thingstodoinct #coolplaces #hiddengem #cafe
