10 Candle Tips I Swear By (That Took Me Years to Learn!) …but I’m sharing them so you don’t have to learn the hard way. 😅 Let’s be honest — candle making isn’t just wax and wicks. It’s science, art, patience… and a lot of trial and error. After years of testing, tweaking, and nearly giving up on some batches (looking at you, tunneling candles 😩), here are the lessons I live by: 1. Always test your wick with your exact jar + wax combo. What works for one doesn’t work for all. 2. Room temp matters. Don’t pour candles when it’s too cold or too hot — your tops will tell the story. 3. Fragrance load ≠ stronger scent. More isn’t always better — it can clog your wick or cause sweating. 4. Let them cure. I know it’s tempting, but wait at least 5–7 days before lighting. Patience pays off. 5. Double check your wick centering. Off-center = uneven burn. 6. Preheat your jars for smooth tops. Especially in cooler weather. 7. Write everything down. Every. Single. Test. Your future self will thank you. 8. Don’t chase trends — chase your brand. Stick to scents and styles that align with your values. 9. Trim wicks before shipping! Customers appreciate a clean, ready-to-burn candle. 10. Celebrate every win — even the small ones. That perfect scent throw? The first repeat order? They count. 💛 These tips changed the game for me — and they’ve helped shape every Lux & Co. candle you know and love. 👇 Drop your biggest candle-making lesson in the comments (or ask me anything you’re stuck on!) Let’s grow, learn, and light the way — together. 🕯️✨ #CandleMakingTips #CandleMakerLife #LuxAndCoAustralia #SmallBusinessJourney #CreativeEntrepreneur #CandleMakersAU #CraftedWithIntention #HandmadeBusiness #AustralianMakers #StartWithPurpose #FragranceDesign #CandleMakingCommunity #ScentedWithPurpose #CreativeProcess #BuildAtYourOwnPace

I’ve now sold over 1,000 candles as merch at my shows. If you’ve been wanting to try it, here’s your sign! This is nottt an ad for any of these brands, but I use Candle Science for wax and fragrance (I used American Soy Organics for this batch and it was great as well). I buy my wooden wicks from random brands on Amazon and the tins are by Hearts And Crafts also found on Amazon. After 3 years of making candles, it’s ALL trial and error so just f*** around and find out bby! #candles #crafts #candlemaking #diy #howto

Here’s a quick candle-making tutorial with specific temperatures if you want to try DIY candles at home. 😊 1. Melt the Wax Use a double boiler or a wax melter. Heat the wax to 185°F (85°C)—this ensures proper melting and binding with fragrance. 2. Add Fragrance Oil Remove wax from heat and let it cool to 175-185°F (79-85°C) before adding fragrance oil. Stir slowly for 1-2 minutes to ensure even distribution. Typical fragrance load: 6-10% (e.g., for 1 lb of wax, use 1 oz of fragrance). 3. Prep Containers & Wicks While wax cools, secure wicks with wick stickers or hot glue. Use wick holders to keep them centered. 4. Pour the Wax Ideal pouring temp: 135-145°F (57-63°C) for most waxes. Pour slowly to reduce air bubbles. 5. Cure & Trim Let candles sit undisturbed at room temp for at least 24 hours (soy needs 1-2 weeks for best scent throw). Trim wicks to ¼ inch before lighting. Most importantly have fun! 💛 #candlemaking #candlemakingtips #candlemakingtutorial #howtomakecandles

📌 Candle making is an art and a science — and I don’t play about either. ❌ Using fragrance oils not tested for candle safety – If it’s not approved for candles, it’s not going in mine. Safety first, always. ❌ Skipping the cure time – Great scent throw takes patience. Rushing the process only leads to disappointment. ❌ Fragrance overload – More fragrance doesn’t mean stronger scent. There’s a perfect balance — and I stick to it. ❌ Ignoring burn tests – Every wick, every jar, every blend — tested until it burns just right. ❌ Pouring in cold rooms – Temperature matters. A cold pour room can ruin a good batch. ❌ Using jars not tested for heat resistance – A pretty jar isn’t worth the risk. I only use containers that are heat-safe and tested. ❌ Compromising quality to cut costs – I’ll always choose quality over shortcuts. My customers deserve the best. ❌ Using wax blends without doing the research – Every wax behaves differently. I study mine like a science project before it ever hits your hands. Follow for more

1️⃣ Choose the right wax – Coconut soy wax is my go-to for a smooth burn and great scent throw(🥥👌🏻) The wax you use matters! 2️⃣ Find the perfect wick (AKA the biggest struggle) - Finding “the one” takes trial and error, but when you get it right… game changer! 3️⃣ Measure fragrance correctly – More isn’t always better! The sweet spot is 6-10% fragrance load, mixed in at the right temp (185°F) for the best scent throw. 4️⃣ Pour at the right temp – Pouring too hot = sinkholes. Too cold = rough tops. A steady 135-145°F pour temp gives the best results! 5️⃣ Let it cure – The longer a candle cures, the better the scent! I recommend 2 weeks for the best fragrance throw. 6️⃣ Trim the wick before every burn – Keeping it at ¼ inch helps the candle burn cleaner and last longer—no mushrooming or excess soot! 7️⃣ Always burn to the edges – 📌 The first burn is the most important! Let the wax melt all the way across to prevent tunneling and ensure an even burn every time. Happy Candle Making! #candlemaking #candleshop #candles #candlebusiness #candlemaker #ourbrand #candlecommunity #candlesofinstagram #candleco #theraputic #jointhejourney #switchcandles #branding #candleaddict
