JOI’ve never forgotten my cochlear implant battery before…until last night.
After driving all the way to Brighton, it died and I realised I’d left the spare at home. When my implant dies, I hear nothing at all…just silence, movement and vibrations. It hit me harder than I expected.
I love being deaf and I’m proud of it but moments like that still feel isolating - especially knowing I’ve got work this weekend and rely on my implant to communicate with big groups of people.
I’m really grateful Ellen was there. We’re learning BSL together and in that moment I didn’t need sound, she made me feel safe again.
It’s a reminder of how important it is to lean on the people around you in those lil moments❤️
