ZAFor the past 9 years, my friend Kasey @kctararuj and I have had a little post-con tradition: we trade customs from our leftover inventory. It’s our weird little artist ritual after every show we do together—DesignerCon, Five Points, CollectedCon.
Last DesignerCon, I surprised her with a visit from a real-life Backstreet Boy (she’s a boyband superfan, so naturally, she fangirled 😂. Shoutout to @funmakermike for making that happen!).
But for @CollectedCon this year, I wanted to switch it up. Instead of her choosing from my remaining pieces, I made her one based on her favorite snack: @smartfoodpopcorn. I stuffed it in the bag like a cereal box prize and just… waited. 😏
9 years later and I’m still finding new ways to mess with her. 😝🫶🏼

KII’m hanging out at @collectedcon at Navy Pier in Chicago all weekend! I have the entire line of Pride Pals on hand so you can build your own set in person! We have both pins and stickers for you to choose from! I even have all of the new Pride Pals that just dropped this week! This is a super cool show with so many amazing artists selling designer toys, prints, stickers, accessories, original art, and so many rad things! JICapturing a specific kind of devotion. “BAN-HATEU (반하트) GREEN.” Acrylic gouache on canvas, 2026.
This piece is a tribute to the “Idol”—that magnetic, hyper-saturated presence in J-pop and K-pop that we collectively adore. The title, Ban-Hateu, plays on that half-heart gesture we see through screens and across concert barricades.
It’s about the tension between the persona we see on stage and the personal connection we feel as fans. I wanted the green to feel electric, almost artificial, like the glow of a lightstick in a dark stadium. That specific “Neo-Bijinga” linework is there to frame her as something both untouchable and deeply familiar—a modern icon of the “bijin” (beautiful person) tradition.
I’m bringing this 8x8” acrylic original to Los Angeles next month for @collectedcon (April 25–26).
Exhibiting with @uvdtoys as part of their group show. The painting will be available for sale at the booth—stop by to see the details and the texture in person if you’re at the con.
