Admissions officers at places like Harvard, Yale, and Princeton are looking for "External Validation"—proof that you are a top-tier candidate in the real world, not just a student who can afford a $5,000 camp. To actually boost your Common App and stand out in the 2026/2027 application cycle, your summer program must pass these 2 specific criteria: 1️⃣ The "Stipend" Rule: The most prestigious programs are almost always FREE. Georgetown is an incredible university, and was always very selective, but one of the things that made it a little bit less competitive and previous cycles was that there was a lot of additional friction that students need to push through in order to apply. Because Georgetown had a separate application portal, you had to refill all your information and that substantially decrease the number of students who would send in an app. But next year this will be changing, because Georgetown is joining the common app. Students will be able to simply write their essays and apply like they would to any other college, and this is likely going to significantly increase the total number of students to apply. obviously, more competition makes it harder for everyone so make sure you’re focusing on the unique features of your application so that the numbers don’t even matter.
