Soul Friend, 🌿✨🪬🕊️ I saw this reel today and it stopped me in my tracks. A grown man sitting in a therapist’s office. Across from him is a small child under a sheet — like a ghost. The child keeps saying “I hate it here.” “I want to go home.” And the therapist replies, “You say that every time we meet.” If you live with Complex PTSD, that line lands deep in your body. Not wanting to die. Not wanting to disappear. Just this aching feeling of I don’t belong here. I don’t feel safe here. I want to go home. But here’s the heartbreaking part. Many people with complex trauma never had a real emotional “home” in the first place. No place where their nervous system could rest. No baseline of safety to return to. So the child inside keeps wandering through adult life like a ghost. Haunting relationships. Haunting the body. Haunting the nervous system. Always searching for a place that never existed. This is the work I do with people every day. Not trying to silence the ghost child. But meeting them with compassion. Helping the adult self finally say: I see you. You survived something real. And slowly — over time — helping the nervous system learn something it may never have known before: Safety. Because healing from complex trauma isn’t about thinking your way out of pain. It’s about helping the part of you that never felt safe finally come home inside your own body. 🎥 Credit for this powerful clip: @badomensofficial 🎨 Shared and interpreted by Jocelyn, student art psychotherapist Love and light and radical healing, Andrea ❤️‍🩹🌿✨🪬🕊️🥹 #ComplexPTSD #TraumaHealing #SoulSurgery #InnerChildHealing #NervousSystemHealing

CPTSD stands for Complex Post-Traumatic Stress Disorder. And it doesn’t come from one event. It comes from long-term emotional pain. Growing up in chaos. Walking on eggshells. Being unseen, unheard, or unsafe for years. Instead of flashbacks, CPTSD often shows up as: • emotional numbness • people-pleasing • hypervigilance • shame that doesn’t feel earned • feeling “broken” without knowing why It’s not weakness. It’s a nervous system that adapted to survive. And survival changes the brain. If you live with Complex PTSD, you may notice a feeling of being evaluated even when no one is around. For many people this comes from early experiences where criticism or emotional unpredictability required constant self monitoring. Over time that scrutiny can become internal, creating an ongoing sense of being judged inside your own mind. Understanding this pattern can help loosen the grip of chronic shame and hypervigilance. #complexptsd #cptsd #shame

Trauma can lead to a range of mental health conditions. Acute Stress Disorder (ASD) occurs shortly after a traumatic event, usually within a few days, and can last up to a month. Symptoms include intrusive thoughts, confusion, flashbacks, and anxiety. ASD can disrupt daily life, and if untreated, may evolve into post-traumatic stress disorder (PTSD). Post-Traumatic Stress Disorder (PTSD) is diagnosed when trauma symptoms persist for over a month. Individuals with PTSD may experience flashbacks, nightmares, emotional numbness, and hypervigilance. The trauma is often re-experienced, leading to distress and avoidance behaviours. PTSD affects the ability to function normally in daily life, and symptoms can last for months or years. Complex PTSD (C-PTSD) results from prolonged or repeated trauma, often in situations where the individual feels trapped, such as childhood abuse or long-term domestic violence. In addition to PTSD symptoms, those with C-PTSD often struggle with emotional regulation, self-perception, and interpersonal relationships. Adjustment Disorder occurs when an individual has difficulty coping with a significant life change or stressor, such as a loss or transition. Symptoms include feelings of sadness, hopelessness, and anxiety. Adjustment disorder usually improves once the stressor is managed. #ptsd #complexptsd #stress #trauma #mentalhealth #psychiatry #psychiatrist

Healing complex PTSD can feel worse before it feels better. When you’ve lived in survival mode for years, feeling again can be overwhelming. Crying more. Sleeping more. Grieving things you never had space to process. That doesn’t mean you’re failing. It can mean your nervous system finally feels safe enough to feel. 🤍Save this for when healing feels confusing 🤍 Follow for more trauma-informed healing content #cptsd #complexptsd

When I walk alone I often sing these chants or songs. They just come out and I allow them with out judgment or need for words. Certainly not for the quality of my vocals but rather to announce my presence to animals that maybe around the corner, so neither of us are surprised. Pumas are like giant house cats that would prefer to scatter before a human contact. I also find this to be a beautiful practice for soothing my parasympathetic nervous system. Unfortunately, I suffer from Complex PTSD. The walking is a bilateral stimulation of sort, also very helpful. So, I offer this information (please no judgement:) To anyone who this might speak to for any of the reasons I have expressed. Much love, have a beautiful day. ♥️ Ash #ptsd #emdr #natureisnurture #parasymphateticnervoussystem #selflove #heal #topanga

Comment “Support” and I will DM you weekly trauma recovery tips 📩 Trauma is complicated because it can show up so differently in individuals. Sometimes having multiple lifetime trauma leads to people having atypical symptoms and this may lead to a diagnosis of complex PTSD.💔 Uncovering and validating the trauma may be a first step in treatment and trauma recovery looks different for every individual. ❤️‍🩹 #trauma #traumarecovery Disclaimer: You may want to consider your individual mental health needs with a licensed medical professional. I think everyone has heard of “The Body Keeps the Score” at this point. Here are some fresh books that your trauma therapist has probably read, or at least has on their bookshelf. And you can read them too!… • When There Are No Words: Repairing Early Trauma and Neglect from the Attachment Period — Sandra L. Paulsen A more academic book for EMDR therapists for the stuff that happened before you had language for it—this one helps make sense of those deep, hard-to-explain patterns and how to address healthfully in therapy. • Coping with Trauma-Related Dissociation: Skills Training for Patients and Therapists — Suzette Boon, Kathy Steele, Onno van der Hart Super practical, especially if you tend to check out, go numb, or feel like you have “parts” of you pulling in different directions. One a client could easily read and find useful. • Complex PTSD: From Surviving to Thriving — Pete Walker Honestly one of the most validating books out there for childhood trauma—puts words to things a lot of people have felt but couldn’t explain. • Being a Brain-Wise Therapist: A Practical Guide to Interpersonal Neurobiology — Bonnie Badenoch A little more therapist-y, but if you like understanding the why behind your patterns, this one connects the dots in a really human way. Badenoch is fantastic for helping you understand how your brain relates to your overall mental health and wellbeing. • The Heart of Trauma: Healing the Embodied Brain in the Context of Relationships — Bonnie Badenoch Badenoch is on here two times for a reason. This one is all about how healing actually happens in safe, attuned relationships (not just “thinking your way out of it”). • What Happened to You?: Conversations on Trauma, Resilience, and Healing — Bruce D. Perry & Oprah Winfrey An easy entry point that helps you shift from “what’s wrong with me?” to “what makes sense about me?” The reframe we all need! Any good trauma informed books not here? Lemme know ⬇️ ✨Follow @therapywithlizzi for more relatable high functioning anxiety and trauma recovery content 🫶Therapy services offered in IL 🚫This page is for educational purposes and not a replacement for professional therapy
