LAThis is how corks are made 👀
Corks have been used to seal bottles for centuries, with their origins tracing back to ancient Greece and Rome, where natural cork from the bark of the cork oak tree was used to stopper amphorae and containers of wine and oil. The material was valued because it is lightweight, flexible, and naturally resistant to moisture and air.
The widespread use of corks in wine bottles began in the 17th century, when glass bottles with narrow necks became more common in Europe. Cork proved ideal because it could be compressed to fit tightly in the bottle, creating an airtight seal that helped preserve the wine during storage and transport. For hundreds of years, cork remained the standard closure for wine bottles, although in modern times it has been joined by alternatives like synthetic corks and screw caps.
