GEThe Pearson correlation coefficient (r) is a statistical measure that indicates the strength and direction of a linear relationship between two continuous variables.
Its values range from -1 to 1, where 1 indicates a perfect positive linear relationship, -1 indicates a perfect negative linear relationship, and 0 indicates no linear correlation.
Generally, values closer to -1 or 1 represent strong correlations, while those near 0 suggest weak or no correlation. A positive correlation means that as one variable increases, the other tends to increase, whereas a negative correlation implies that as one variable increases, the other tends to decrease.
The coefficient of determination (r²) is derived by squaring the Pearson correlation coefficient and represents the proportion of variance in one variable that is predictable from the other. For example, if r = 0.8, then r² = 0.64, meaning 64% of the variability in one variable can be explained by the linear relationship with the other.
