EXA fissured tongue, also called lingua plicata, is a harmless condition where the surface of the tongue develops deep grooves or cracks. These fissures can vary in depth and pattern, giving the tongue a folded or wrinkled appearance.

1)Often genetic (runs in families)
2)Can be associated with Down syndrome, Melkersson-Rosenthal syndrome, or geographic tongue
3)May appear or deepen with age
