Capability shouldn’t be punished with more load, yet it happens every day. Silence gets rewarded with more responsibility. Resilience gets pushed until it fractures. And when they finally crack? We label it attitude. We write it up as underperformance. We manage the symptom instead of fixing the system. I’ve seen too many high performers punished for being reliable. It’s easier to load the dependable operator than it is to lift the standard of the rest. Then the moment they push back or ask for support, it’s met with disappointment, followed by, “You will comply.” If your strongest people are burning out, it’s not a toughness issue.
