Exercise: Create Vivid Descriptions
* Observe Surroundings: Take a moment to observe your surroundings, paying attention to the sights, sounds, smells, and textures around you. Use these sensory details to enrich your descriptive writing.
* Use Specific Language: Choose precise and evocative language to convey your descriptions. Avoid generic or vague terms and opt for specific nouns, adjectives, and verbs that paint a clear picture in the reader’s mind.
* Appeal to Emotions: Use descriptive writing to evoke emotional responses in your readers. Describe scenes and settings in a way that resonates with the mood and tone of your story, whether it’s through a sense of wonder, nostalgia, or foreboding.
* Create Atmosphere: Use descriptive writing to establish the atmosphere and tone of your story. Describe settings in a way that conveys the mood and atmosphere you want to create, whether it’s cozy and inviting or eerie and unsettling.
* Show Character Perspective: Consider how your characters perceive their surroundings and describe them accordingly. Use descriptive details that reflect the character’s personality, background, and emotional state.
HOW THE 30 DAY CHALLENGE WORKS:
- Allocate writing time each day, I recommend 1 to 2 hours
- Allocate 30 min for a daily expertise that helps you reflect on your writing approach and teaches you new tools
- Writing focus for each day
- Share your process with others, let’s support each other
