Dobby used to paw off the Harry Potter glasses immediately and I was never able to get any photos of him wearing them (except for the @floofystudios pic at the end of this reel, she’s the real witch 🧙‍♀️). I’m so glad I finally decided to desensitize Dobby to wearing glasses because the photos of him in his Harry Potter costume are my favourites, and the glasses really tie the whole look together 🤓 We trained every morning for about 5 minutes. By the third morning, he was able to progress to step 2 and wear the glasses for brief moments. We spent the longest on building duration in step 3, and we’re still practicing outside to further desensitize him to wearing the glasses. It’s important to take each step slowly and not to rush to the next step if your dog isn’t ready to move on. At home, we’ve gotten up to 40 seconds of wearing the glasses while rewarding with treats every 10 seconds. My goal is now to extend the reward intervals and eventually phase out rewarding altogether while he’s wearing the glasses at home. If we’re outside, he’s more distracted and will paw them off after a few seconds of wearing them, or he’ll look down and they’ll fall off his narrow face 😅 but we’ve come a long way from him refusing to wear them at all!
