HADouglas TBD-1 Devastators of Torpedo Squadron Six (VT-6) on maneuvers sometime in 1939. When she entered service in 1938 the TBD was the most advanced carrier plane in the US Navy. Torpedo Six was heavily attrited at the Battle of Midway in June of 1942, loosing ten out of fourteen aircraft. After Midway, all Devastators were retired from combat flying, relegated to training and support duties.
Today, no aircraft survive, though there are a few remarkably intact wrecks (with paint and insignia still visible after more than 80 years!) near the sunken USS Lexington, 500 miles off the coast of Queensland, Australia.
