Sometimes what looks like excitement is actually overstimulation. Zoomies, constant barking, or reacting to every small trigger can mean your dog’s nervous system is stuck in overdrive and that’s exhausting for them. A truly happy dog can play… and then switch off. They know how to relax. 🐾 If your dog struggles to settle after fun, they may not need more chaos, they need calm. Have you noticed this in your dog? 👇 #DogBehaviour #OverstimulatedDog #DogAnxiety #CalmDog #DogMentalHealth DogTrainingTips DogParents DogCare ReactiveDog PetCareCommunity

3 reasons over-excited greetings stress your dog: 1️⃣ Big reactions overload their nervous system When you come home and explode with excitement, your dog’s adrenaline spikes instantly. Jumping, whining, spinning, licking: that’s not happiness. That’s over-arousal. 2️⃣ You’re teaching their body to never settle Every time homecoming = chaos, your dog learns that calm is not the goal. Their system stays stuck in “on” mode. And a nervous system that never settles eventually shows problems in behavior and health. 3️⃣ Stress doesn’t disappear: it goes inward Dogs don’t process excitement like humans. When it’s too intense, it turns into internal stress. That stress shows up later as: digestive issues, skin problems, anxiety, and reactivity. That’s why I don’t rely only on affection or food. I focus on regulation! I regulate naturally, not chemically These are the 5 things I use, depending on what my dog needs: 🥣 Bone broth Supports hydration and digestion when stress hits the gut. 👉 Comment BROTH and I’ll send my recipe. 🌿 Mint paste Calms the stomach and supports balance after excitement spikes. 👉 Comment MINT to get it. 🎃 Pumpkin mix Helps regulate stools when stress disrupts digestion. 👉 Comment GUT and I’ll share it. 🛡️ Natural flea support Protects without adding chemical stress to the body. 👉 Comment FLEA for my method. Even with real food, stress increases nutrient demand inside the body. That’s why I add Iron Paws daily. Iron Paws is made with natural ingredients like spirulina, chlorella, probiotics, and 23 essential nutrients. Just one scoop a day added to food. It supports digestion, liver and kidney health, immunity, and vitality. Calm outside starts balanced inside. 👉 Iron Paws link is in my bio.

Is your dog’s reactivity getting worse? The reason might be closer than you think. 🧠🐕‍🦺 A study of 58 dog-owner pairs found a direct link between the stress hormones in humans and their dogs. When our cortisol levels rise, theirs often follow suit. If you’re working through reactivity training, remember that the most powerful tool in your kit might just be your own relaxation. 🌿 Tag a fellow dog owner who needs this reminder today! #dogtraining #dogtrainer #dogcare #dogreactivity #reactivedogs

We often try to train behaviour without first checking the body behind it. Pain, digestive imbalance, poor sleep, or chronic discomfort quietly dysregulate a dog’s nervous system. A dysregulated body cannot produce calm behaviour. Before labels, before correction : Observe health, environment, and emotional safety. Behaviour is not the problem. It’s the message. #DogPsychology #BehaviourIsCommunication #HolisticDogCare #DogBehaviourist #TheAlphaConnect

So here is my untrendy opinion for a rainy Tuesday afternoon. Meet needs first. Train second. Maslow’s hierarchy reminds us that learning sits above basic needs. If a dog’s physiological needs (including avoidance of pain), safety, and emotional security aren’t met, training sits on very shaky ground. You can’t ask for focus from a nervous system that’s dysregulated. You can’t train calm in a body that feels unsafe or painful. Behaviour change starts with good welfare. We often ask a lot of our dogs (and often ask them not to be dogs anymore). Social media is stuffed full of dogs performing amazing tricks (which definitely have their place…!) but sometimes we need to remember the basics…. Physical and emotional wellness. Once we have these sorted, the rest will follow 💕 #veterinarybehaviour #maslovshierarchyofneeds #anxiousdog #dogtraining

Your dog shuts down the second you walk through the door. 😰 Shaking 😰 Drooling 😰 Trying to hide behind you 🫶🏼 You bring high-value treats hoping it’ll help. 🫶🏼 You visit just to say hi and leave to build positive associations. 🫶🏼 You stay calm yourself, thinking if you’re calm, they’ll be calm too. But nothing works. You feel helpless. Like you can’t protect them from the thing that terrifies them, even though they need vet care. Like you’re failing them 💔 Here’s what most people don’t realize: your dog’s stress bucket is overflowing before you even walk through the door. Once you learn how to prep their nervous system before vet visits, everything changes. They still might not love it. But they can get through an exam without completely falling apart. Comment BUCKET if you want my walkthrough on helping your dog handle the vet without shutting down. #dogmom #dogtraining #reactivedogtraining

Obsessive behaviors in dogs are weird, but I wouldn’t call them cute. I’d be visiting a veterinary specialist asap, either an internist, or a veterinary behaviorist who could start referring me and running diagnostics. Often pets that lick non-food items obsessively are suffering from severe internal issues, pain, or just full on anxiety. Either way, this isn’t a normal behavior. #dogbehavior #dogtrainingtips #dogtips
