a benefit of not doing one of the nile cruises was spending two nights in a wonderful guesthouse in esna (@discoveresna). this converted building is an oasis from the dusty city streets where motorbikes, children and donkeys rule. three stories high with an open top the interior design is absolutely flawless - traditional touches with a modern bent.

the three top things to do in esna are all less than five minutes walk away from this spot:
📍 temple of khnum - this was the reason i wanted to visit esna, the colourful and stunning temple which small in stature makes up for it in sheer beauty. the restoration has uncovered the most gorgeous egyptian tones making it unlike any of the other temples you’ll see on your trip.
📍 okra restaurant (@okra_kitchen) - known as the woman’s kitchen, it’s the first female run eatery in the city. named after a key ingredient in the local cuisine - it is also often referred to as ‘lady fingers’ to make the name even more fitting - you’ll have the choice of several bespoke menus all with various courses to enjoy.
📍 pr-ba concept store (@pr.ba_concept_stores) - the centrepiece of the newly restored al-qisariyya market this shop houses a hand picked selection of local items from cosmetics, homewares, crafts and clothes. it’s the perfect place to pick up a beautiful object to remind you of your time in both esna and egypt

SEKuil paling warna-warni yang pernah gue datengin.
Hypostyle hall-nya masih berdiri dengan 24 tiang raksasa, ukiran penuh dari bawah sampai langit-langit. Warna aslinya bahkan masih ada walaupun kuil ini udah terkubur ratusan tahun.
Kuil ini didedikasikan buat Dewa Khnum, dewa yang dipercaya membentuk manusia dari tanah liat. Dan yang lebih unik, dibangunnya di era Romawi, tapi gaya dan simbolnya tetap Mesir kuno banget. Bahkan kaisar Romawi digambarkan kayak Firaun.
Sekarang posisinya malah lebih rendah dari jalan kota modern. Jadi kalau lo berdiri di atasnya, lo lagi lihat sejarah yang literally terkubur waktu.
Kadang kita mikir keajaiban itu cuma piramida.
Padahal kuil kecil di tengah kota kayak gini juga bukti, peradaban mereka nggak main-main.

Enregistre ce post pour préparer ta visite au temple d’Esna pour ton prochain séjour en Égypte (notre temple coup de cœur) :
🎨 Pourquoi le temple d’Esna est spécial ?
Il a encore son plafond (contrairement à Karnak) et toutes les fresques sont encore colorées. C’est magnifique à voir ! Le temple est dédié au dieu Khnoum et il est resté sous une couche de crasse pendant 2000 ans. Fou non ?
🕞 timing : essayez de venir avant 17h c’est la ou toutes les croisières viennent visiter et ça gâche vraiment le plaisir.
🚗 Comment aller visiter le temple d’Esna ?
• le plus simple est de prendre un chauffeur privé qui devrait vous faire l’aller retour pour maxi 40€ .
• il est possible de se rendre en train jusqu’à Esna puis de prendre un tuk tuk. Si c’est l’option que vous retenez, on vous conseille de prendre le train AC et d’insister pour acheter votre billet à la gare de Luxor et non dans le train (et éviter de vous mettre dans une drôle de situation) Cependant, notez que ce trajet n’est pas habituel. Ensuite vous pouvez prendre un tuk tuk pour 300 EGP (il vous attend au temple et vous ramène)
