You never know what you are going to get! ✨The Color egg can vary from blue, green, light brown to pinkish. What they lay their 1st time will remain the same throughout their life. The color will not change. ✨They are pretty good layers, laying at least 4 eggs a week and up to 280 eggs a year. This sweet girl featured just started laying in late July at around 4 months old and was giving me 5-6 eggs a week. She lays a light green egg. If you’re looking for specific egg colors with your flock they may not be the chicken for you, but if you’re up for a fun surprise they are perfect! Easter Eggers are a mix between an Araucana (blue egg layers) and a brown egg layer, so they can lay a number of egg colors from hues of blue or green to shades of brown or even pink. You won’t know what color eggs your Easter Egger hen will lay until she gives you her first one, and then she will lay that color for the rest of her days. Even their feather coloring is a guessing game until they’re grown and fully feathered. I love that we can have a flock of all Easter Egger girls and they all have their own look and we have a colorful egg basket full of blues and greens and one who lays pink eggs. They’re also friendly, hardy, and great producers, laying up to 280 eggs per year. I think the next time we get chicks I do want to try a few other breeds just for more variety, but I’ll always have an Easter Egger or two in our flock. Here are my top 5 if you’re looking to have a beautiful rainbow egg basket of your own. 1-The Black Copper Marans lays lovely chocolate eggs and is responsible for all the speckles in my egg basket. 2-The Easter Egger is a mixed breed bird that often has one blue egg gene. They typically lay a light green or blue egg (but you aren’t guaranteed either). Look for chicks with a pea comb. This is closely linked to the blue egg gene. 3-The True Ameraucana has two blue egg genes, beard, and muffs. 4-The Olive Egger is a mixed breed bird created by mixing a blue egg gene bird with a bird with chocolate egg pigment genetics (There’s no such thing as A chocolate egg gene). 5-The Delaware lays a tinted egg that’s often quite pink. This pink tint gives great contrast to all the other tones in my basket. (I actually have several breeds that tie for this number 5 spot.
