THThis is a critical introduction to basic economic theory. We will touch on some of the topics covered in an IGCSE Economics syllabus, with a focus on understanding philosophical assumptions, economic logic, and how the various pieces work together.
Our conversation will engage with economics, history, politics, anthropology and more.
Thinkers can join the course at the beginning of any term, no prior knowledge is required.
Content to be covered might include (we will adapt our content to follow Thinker's interests and recent events).
1. The basic economic problem - human nature and unlimited wants
2. Demand and supply and the invisible hand of the market
3. The private firm: cost, revenues, and profits.
4. The role of government in an economy.
5. Economic indicators.
6. Trade - absolute and comparative advantage
7. Free markets versus restrictions
8. Competing economic theories
During the course we will explore case studies, play economic games, and have fun.
No prior knowledge is expected, all curious, bright young Thinkers welcomed.
