Barbary Lion The Most Powerful Lion In History This is believed to be one of the last known images of a Barbary Lion. Once one of the most powerful and majestic lions, the Barbary Lion disappeared from the wild by the 1940s. He walked alone… and was never seen again. Did humans cause this extinction? 👇 hashtags:- #barbarylion #lion #wildlife #extinction #viral

🌑 Animals That Might Be Gone By 2027 😨🌍 Right now… some species are fighting a silent war. Not against predators. But against time. If nothing changes — the next few years could erase them forever. 🐅 Amur Leopard Less than a few hundred remain in the wild. Poaching and habitat loss push this ghost of the forest closer to extinction every year. 🦏 Javan Rhino One of the rarest large mammals on Earth. A single disease outbreak or natural disaster could wipe out the entire population. 🐢 Hawksbill Sea Turtle Hunted for its shell and threatened by coral reef destruction — survival grows harder with every warming ocean. 🦍 Cross River Gorilla So rare that sightings are almost mythical. Forest destruction continues to shrink their last safe refuge. 🦈 Vaquita The most endangered marine mammal alive today. Illegal fishing nets are driving this small porpoise toward permanent silence. This isn’t fiction. It’s happening now. When a species disappears… it doesn’t come back. No second chance. No reset. Nature’s darkest secret? Extinction is permanent. 💬 Which of these shocked you the most? 👉 Follow @decodingwrlds as we decode the darker side of nature before it’s too late. 🎥 Video Credit: DM for credits/removal to the real owner. . . . #endangeredspecies #wildlifecrisis #darksideofnature #extinction #decodingwrlds

The Maldives has a problem… One of its atolls is the Whale shark hotspot of the world and attracts thousands of tourists globally to see it annually. Do people research before the trip? Barely. Are there many better options to see it in a more ethical manner? Not really. Can it be done sustainably here? Yes! But we need more enforcement that doesn’t exist right now. Yes after seeing the video you might think how can this be allowed? Simply put, it isn’t. There are rules. But no one is there to police them. Hopefully in the future this changes but for now these poor creatures bare the marks of human hands. Propeller cuts down the length of their bodies, amputated fins. People don’t do this purposefully but it’s due to the tourism pressure of people wanting to see them. Too many boats speeding in the marine protected area just so there guests get to see the fish for most of the time just a minute in the water. These guys are ectotherms so they need to hang around at the surface to warm up and at this depth boats mow straight over them, injuring them greatly. Yes there can be amazing encounters with just one boat but they are so rare. Pick the right dive centre or hotel to take you. Don’t jump in if you think it’s the right thing to do. Don’t contribute to the downfall of the biggest fish in the world. #extinction #maldives #whaleshark #fish #tourism

In 1987, researchers recorded the song of a male Kauaʻi ʻōʻō in the forests of Hawaiʻi. It was a normal mating call — the same sound his species had made for centuries. What wasn’t normal was the silence that followed. No female answered. Not because she was hiding — but because she no longer existed. The bird didn’t know he was the last. Evolution taught him to call, to hope, to wait. And after that recording, the Kauaʻi ʻōʻō was never heard again. That’s how extinction usually happens. Not with drama. Not with awareness. But with one living being doing everything right — in a world that has already moved past the point of return. The Kauaʻi ʻōʻō wasn’t unique in this fate. Today, thousands of species are quietly walking the same path — pushed there by habitat loss, invasive species, pollution, and climate pressure caused largely by human activity. Most extinctions don’t look like disasters. They look like delays. Late responses. Missed warnings. Silence we notice only afterward. The uncomfortable truth is this: we don’t need to “save everything” to make a difference — but small actions at scale matter. 𝗣𝗿𝗮𝗰𝘁𝗶𝗰𝗮𝗹 𝗺𝗶𝗰𝗿𝗼-𝘀𝘁𝗲𝗽𝘀 𝘁𝗵𝗮𝘁 𝗮𝗰𝘁𝘂𝗮𝗹𝗹𝘆 𝗵𝗲𝗹𝗽: 1. Reduce single-use plastics — they directly affect marine and bird life 2. Support native plants — even one balcony or garden matters 3. Avoid products linked to deforestation and illegal wildlife trade 4. Support verified conservation groups, even with small monthly amounts 5. Share factual stories — awareness changes policy faster than outrage You don’t have to be perfect. You just have to act before the silence arrives. Because somewhere right now, a species may still be calling — and this time, it doesn’t have to end unanswered. Credits : @theoxygenproj #extinction #wildlife #conservation #biodiversity #nature

Human-caused extinctions didn’t just STOP at the end of the Pleistocene… Though the end of the Pleistocene (11.7 kya) marked the extinction of nearly 200 species of megafauna, these extinctions didn’t stop when we entered the Holocene. As humans began forming more sophisticated societies, exploration and exploitation of the natural world only intensified. This was ESPECIALLY true on isolated islands. While dozens of species on the mainlands were decimated, islands were usually kept shielded from direct human influence. However, this isolation was not to last. A tiny population of Woolly Mammoths persisted on a tiny island off the coast of Siberia until just 4000 years ago. Then humans arrived. Madagascar used to be home to over a dozen species of giant lemurs and the largest bird to ever exist: the elephant bird. Then humans arrived. New Zealand was home to 9 species of giant, flightless birds called Moas until 700 years ago…when humans arrived. What was it about humans arriving on pristine islands that caused so many extinctions? One would think the obvious culprit would be hunting. And yes that almost certainly led to a lot of extinctions as island creatures were naive to the danger of humans, often making them easy prey. But humans drove many species to extinction through other ways too. There’s ample evidence that widespread habitat destruction in places like Madagascar led to considerable stress and extinctions among island megafauna. The hitchhikers that accompanied humans (dogs, cats, pigs, and rodents) wreaked HAVOC on native species, especially on island birds that nested on the ground. It’s easy to think of massive extinction as a relic of the past, effectively gone after we left the Ice Age. But not only did these continue as we entered the Holocene, they intensified into the current day. The biodiversity loss we are experiencing today is rising well-beyond the rates seen at the end of the Pleistocene. 🔍 In September of 1914, Martha, the last-known living Passenger Pigeon, died at the Cincinnati Zoo. Her death at age 29 after a lifetime in captivity marked the disappearance of her once-abundant species from the world—and made Passenger Pigeons synonymous with the extinction of species at human hands. But what happened? Step into the Museum’s Ornithology Collections to learn more. #didyouknow #passengerpigeon #extinction #biodiversity #extinctanimals #ornithology #birds #science

Cave Lion The Biggest Lion In History 🦁 The Cave Lion (Panthera spelaea) was a powerful prehistoric lion that lived during the Ice Age. It once roamed across Europe and Siberia and was larger than most modern lions. Today, only fossil remains and preserved cubs show us what this ancient predator looked like.
