GOLet’s #GoXplr the Rolling Rock in Fall River, Massachusetts - one of the most unusual landmarks in the area 🪨
Left behind by a glacier nearly 10,000 years ago, this 140-ton boulder has balanced perfectly on a flat granite slab ever since - right in the middle of a busy intersection near Lafayette Park.
Once, locals said you could actually push it and make it sway - sparking wild legends (including one claiming it was used for torture 😳). By the 1860s it was anchored in place, but it’s still a beloved piece of Fall River history. When the city tried to remove it in the early 1900s, residents fought back for 25 years - and won.
Today, Rolling Rock stands as both a scientific wonder and a symbol of local pride, even earning the title of Massachusetts’ official glacial rock.
A reminder that even in the middle of a city, ancient history still stands its ground. 🌎✨
Parking: Park along Eastern Avenue by Lafayette Park.
