@Firehook and @IthacaHummus have somehow managed to package up potentially my favorite flavor ever: French Onion. The flavor profile is savory and satisfying, and captures the caramelized onion flavor we all know and love
I leveled mine up for the ultimate snack with a mustard seed, cornichon and herb relish for a hit of acidity and brightness
For the relish:
¼ cup olive oil
1 tbsp mustard seeds
¼ cup chopped cornichons
2 tbsp chopped chives
2 tbsp chopped dill or parsley
½ tsp lemon zest
1 tbsp white wine or champagne vinegar
Salt and pepper, to taste
Add the mustard seeds and olive oil to a small pot over medium-low heat. Heat until the mustard seeds just start to brown and become fragrant, 3-5 minutes. Allow to cool, then add to the remaining ingredients and mix.
