BUOne of my most useful projects! Earlier this year, I swapped flimsy plastic shelves for a solid 27-gallon bin organizer built from 2x4s. If you’ve got an empty wall, you’ve got some storage potential.
I used fifteen 2x4s and just three cuts: 30½” rails, 30” legs, and simple cross bracing. I beveled the rails, sanded everything smooth, then assembled the legs with a 1” gap between rails, locking it all together with 2½” screws. I set the bin height at 16” to accommodate two different bin brands.
Once the frames were done, I hauled them upstairs, added cross supports, and finished things off with 3” screws. Total lumber cost? About $60. I even topped it with scrap plywood for bonus storage.
If you’re working with 27-gallon bins, sticking to one brand makes life easier, but either way, this is a solid way to turn empty wall space into real storage. Hope this sparks an idea!

TETurns out if you stare at a wall long enough… you eventually convince yourself you should build built-ins there.
So that’s exactly what I did.
From raw lumber to finished shelves, this project took a lot of measuring, cutting, re-measuring, and a few “well… that wasn’t supposed to happen” moments.

This was a fun little nightstand shelf that i wanted to mimic the curve of a grand piano, and I used an artist’s palette to trace the shape after a few failed freehand attempts.
We used our @hypertoughtools drill and driver set for this project. You can find hyper tough tools online or at your local Walmart!
