In fact, quite the opposite. It got me stuck at the intermediate level — I used to talk to myself like this, but It really didn’t help me to improve. In fact, quite the opposite. It got me stuck at the intermediate level for a long time. I used to think that reframing and motivational quotes were cheesy. But then I conducted my dissertation research on growth mindset and I realized I’d been in the wrong. What’s this mean for you? Swap your negative self talk with one of these. It may take a while before it feels natural, but it WILL help you shift the way you’re learning French: 1️⃣ I just had a whole conversation in French and people understood me. 2️⃣ I’m a French speaker. (If you’re speaking French, you’re a French speaker!) 3️⃣ I’ve made a lot of progress in my French learning. 4️⃣ I’ll keep showing up for my French goals, even when it feels like the progress is slow.
