DEFunctional cusp bevel in maxillary 1st premolar
📌 Functional Cusp Bevel (Simple Explanation):
A secondary reduction made on the functional cusp (maxillary → palatal cusp, mandibular → buccal cusp) during crown preparation.
In the maxillary 1st premolar, the palatal cusp is the functional cusp.
• A bevel is created on the palatal incline of the palatal cusp.
• It looks like a slanted reduction, providing extra clearance for restorative material.
🔹 Purpose:
• Provides space for restorative material
• Prevents over-contouring
• Maintains proper occlusion
• Reduces chances of crown fracture
✅ Clinical tip: Without a proper bevel, the crown may end up over-contoured or in premature contact, leading to fracture or discomfort.
