PACREATING LAMPS FROM POLYSTYRENE CUPS 💡
‘STYRENE’ by PAUL COCKSEDGE
“These organic shapes started to appear. When I placed the cup in the oven, turned the heat on, each cup began to dance. There’s no glue needed because as the cups are shrinking and they touch - they bond and each lamp I was making became won offs. It was impossible to create an identical one”.
‘Styrene’ was inspired by the concept of growth. By applying heat to polystyrene, the form changed and with it the properties of the material.
Heat alters the form and properties of polystyrene, creating organic and unique sculptural forms with greater strength than the original material.
