MIMost people think cars need fixed gears to change speed. They don’t. 🤯🚗
This Lego Technic model demonstrates a CVT, or Continuously Variable Transmission, using two adjustable cone-shaped pulleys connected by a belt. As the cones move closer together or farther apart, the belt rides higher or lower, instantly changing the gear ratio without traditional gear shifts.
When the belt sits higher on one pulley and lower on the other, the ratio changes smoothly. No stepped gears. No shift shock. Just continuous power delivery.
That’s why many modern vehicles use CVTs for improved efficiency and smoother acceleration. Instead of jumping between fixed ratios, the system constantly adapts to maintain optimal engine performance.
A simple Lego build, explaining one of the most misunderstood automotive technologies.
