The Geminid meteor shower is set to grace the night skies this December, offering one of the most reliable and visually striking celestial events of the year. Active between December 13 and 15, the shower can produce over 120 meteors per hour under dark, clear conditions, with slow-moving, bright streaks that often resemble fireballs. 🌠 ❤️✨ Unlike most meteor showers that originate from comets, the Geminids come from the rocky asteroid 3200 Phaethon, which gives them their dense, luminous trails. In India, the best viewing window is from around midnight until the early hours before dawn, when the constellation Gemini climbs higher in the eastern sky. 🌠 ❤️✨ To maximise the experience, observers are advised to choose a location with minimal light pollution and an unobstructed view of the sky. 💫🌌 No telescopes or binoculars are required - allow your eyes time to adjust to the darkness, remain patient, and watch as fragments of cosmic debris burn up high above the Earth at remarkable speeds. The sky waited. I showed up—again. On the 13th morning, I woke up with a heavy fever. Cold, flu, barely able to walk—but the Geminids come only once a year. So I drove 130 km alone into the forest and tried anyway. Freezing cold, worsening flu… by midnight, my body gave up. I drove back home empty-handed and crashed into bed. The next day, fever still there, body aching. Out of curiosity, I opened PhotoPills— and to my surprise, it showed nearly 60 meteors per hour on the night of the 14th. That one moment changed everything. I called a friend. We drove 81 km to the nearest dark sky, reaching a cliff just in time. And this time, the universe was ready. Meteor after meteor lit up the sky. For hours. More than 50 shooting stars captured on video—and countless more in photos. It was freezing all night. The flu never left.
