This life isn’t easy, but it beats sitting in a house wondering “what if.” 💭 Meet Josh & Haley from @cruisincasa 🌊 Josh grew up sailing in Southern California with his grandparents and always said one day he’d live on a boat. Haley grew up in the mountains and had only been on fishing boats along the Oregon Coast. Sailing was never something she imagined for herself. In 2023, they road-tripped across the country in a renovated 1993 Toyota Dolphin camper. When they reached Florida, they couldn’t stop watching the sailboats… and the rest is history ⛵️ Now they’re sailing the Florida Keys, heading to Stuart, Florida to finish the Great Loop and after that, they’re bound for the Bahamas until July! Leg 2 of our ICW journey took us from Hampton, VA to Chesapeake, VA, and straight through the busy Elizabeth River. Cruising alongside massive naval vessels, cargo ships 🚢, and even a cruise ship 🛳️ really puts into perspective just how small your boat feels next to these floating giants. I’ll be honest, we were a little nervous about transiting the Great Bridge Lock, especially with our two little ones onboard. But we had systems in place to make sure they’re safe and were able to tie up to the lock properly. The lock master was helpful grabbing our line for us which we were grateful for!!! Overall the lock went very smooth and it was nice to check that box as we prepare for the Great Loop! We’re going to comprehend it just fine. This is the Omikron OT-60 that I tested in Athens earlier this summer. It’s truly one of the cooler boats I’ve sea trialed in a long time. Yes the azure waters of the Aegean Sea augmented the whole experience, but in truth, this boat would look cool anywhere from San Diego to the Abacos to The Great Loop. The design on this model is impeccable. A lot of people have mentioned she looks like she is missing a mast, and that’s an astute observation. Omikron has strong sailing roots that parlay concretely into the clean and minimalistic design on display here. One thing that stands out about this boat is how quiet she is. Her twin Yanmars produce a soft and soporific rumble thanks to loads of sound attenuation throughout the boat. That’s the kind of attention to detail that makes this boat an absolute pleasure to be aboard. People are also going to love that salon. You can see how high those windows are—they give the space an almost cathedral-like feel. But there is also an atrium forward that is really kind of jawdropping for a boat this size. Combine all that with smooth, dependable, and efficient performance and you’re looking at a boat that offers the American market a whole lot to like. Spent 3 days training the Brown family from Savannah, Ga to Beaufort, SC. They packed up their entire lives after Phil retired and hopped on the 55 Marquis to start The Great Loop. I met them in Savannah the day they took possession and we immediately started training. After 3 days of intense reps of docking, handling, mate roles, safety procedures, radio etiquette and anchoring they set off by themselves to start the loop. We’re a month in and they are killing it. Accomplished serval open water runs and their first lock. Thrilled to see they are enjoying living on the boat with no schedule. #boattraining #thegreatloop #aglca #yachttraining
