So... you have a half marathon race in sight 🏁 Here are Runna’s 5 top tips on how to pace your half marathon: 1️⃣ Goal time Start by working out what time you are aiming to finish in. Target a pace range of 3-4s either side of your target pace. Head Coach Ben breaks down his approach to pacing a half marathon into three chunks of 7km: 2️⃣ First 7km The first 7 km is the ‘easy’ or ‘free’ section. You’re fresh and it should be relatively easy to hold your target pace. ❗️Don’t get ahead of yourself and start running too fast... we know this can be easily done 👀 3️⃣ Second 7km The ‘meaty’ section... You may feel the fatigue kicking in now but it’s still important to aim to maintain your pace. If you’re holding back, allow yourself to speed up by 5 seconds per km. By reaching the 14 km mark, you’re two-thirds done. Mental mindset is your best friend here🧠 4️⃣ Final 7 km This is the fun part! By this point, you’ll be physically tired. However, if you can get into the mindset that it’s the final stretch, it’ll be easier to maintain good form and enjoy the rest of the race. If you have anything left in the tank, increase your pace for this entire section, instead of saving it all for the last 1 km. 5️⃣ Home Straight The final 500m is a chance to reward yourself for all the hard work you’ve put into training and completing the race. SAVE THIS ASAP 🔟 things to do in your LAST WEEK before a half marathon (final week energy…we’re LOCKING IN now!) 1️⃣Trust the taper Cutting back now helps your body recover and come back stronger, you’re not losing fitness, I promise!!! This is where the magic happens. You aren’t going to make any drastic changes now, the hard is done. 2️⃣Keep runs super easy This isn’t the time to chase pace. Stay relaxed, keep things light, and finish every run feeling like you could easily do more. 3️⃣Dial in nutrition & hydration Stick to what you know works. Practice your race day fuelling, keep meals consistent, and sip water regularly with electrolytes. No last-minute experiments. 4️⃣Prioritise sleep Your body does its best recovery when you rest. Aim for solid sleep all week and don’t stress if the night before isn’t perfect - that’s normal. 5️⃣Visualise race day Picture the start, the nerves, the tough middle miles, and that strong finish…see yourself doing it. Manifest that energy 6️⃣Keep carbs steady (no extremes) Slightly increase carbs in the final days, but don’t go overboard. Think balanced, familiar meals that make you feel good. Extra white bagels, another bowl of cereal and another fruit smoothie. 7️⃣Plan your pacing Go out controlled, not heroic. The goal is to feel strong in the second half, so patience early pays off BIG time later. 8️⃣Lock in your race kit Outfit, shoes, socks. All tested, all trusted. Lay out everything out early so there’s zero stress. 9️⃣Prep the little things the night before Bib pinned, gels ready, watch charged, transport sorted. Future you will be grateful on race morning. 🔟Remind yourself: the hard work is DONE You’ve shown up, put in the miles, and built the fitness. How to Start Running! For new or returning runners it’s all about time and prioritizing minutes over miles! A simple and sustainable guideline is 15-20 minutes about 2-3 times a week. The walk and run method is beneficial for all runners in a variety of situations including: everyday training, interval work, easy efforts and races. The run and walk method is the recommended way to return to running after a significant time away as well as for those recovering from injury. This is what I recommend for all beginners who take on my 30 Day Breakaway program and it’s one of the reasons the program has successfully turned thousands of non-runner into strong, routine runners! When starting out, decide how much time you want to dedicate to running and walking. Every runner is going to be different. If you go out there and walk 12 out of 15 minutes, that’s great! You can focus on getting faster during your walks! If you want running to be part of your life, make it manageable, doable and fun. EXAMPLE RUN AND WALK ROUTINE FOR A BEGINNER Walk 5 minutes, jog/run 2 minutes Walk for 2 minutes, jog/run for 1 minute Make it sustainable, make it fun. Remember that there isn’t a right or wrong way to be a runner. Just put one foot in front of the other—and go!

Hur fort ska jag egentligen springa på mitt testlopp nästa fredag? 😅 Det tog vi reda på idag under ett PACEINGTEST med @frydenlundjeff på @aktivitus - med ”mentalt stöd” och ett och annat tips on the fly från @fredrikzillen 🏃🏽‍♀️💨 Jag började på 6:00 min/km och sedan höjdes tempot successivt. Halten mjölksyra i blodet mättes genom ett stick i fingret vid varje tempohöjning och till slut fick vi svart på vitt på hur det låg till - både spännande och lite läskigt... 🙈 👉🏽 RESULTAT: Ungefär 5.00 min/km blir starttempot på fredag och målet blir att springa en sk negativ split, d v s andra halvan snabbare än första. Borde gå vägen då jag nu på ”äldre” dar blir mer och mer trögstartad 😆🚜💨 Sugen på att hänga med och pace:a och gärna peppa mig den 23/10 här i Stockholm med start 13.00? DM:a mig vetja! Häng med hela eller delar av loppet, vore superkul ju! 🤗
