The Hebrew word “ezer” (עֵזֶר), used in the Bible (Genesis 2:18, 20) to describe the woman created for the man, is often translated as “helper” or “helpmeet”. However, this translation can be misleading as it may imply a subordinate role for women. A more accurate understanding of “ezer” reveals a different and more powerful meaning: • Ezer as a Strong and Vital Aid: The word “ezer” doesn’t suggest inferiority or subservience. It describes someone who provides strength, rescue, and active support. In fact, the word “ezer” is used sixteen times in the Old Testament to refer to God as the helper of His people, a powerful rescuer and deliverer. • Kenegdo: A Corresponding Partner: In Genesis 2:18, “ezer” is coupled with the Hebrew word “kenegdo,” which signifies “corresponding to him,” “opposite to him,” or “suitable for him,” indicating an equal and complementary partnership. Therefore, the phrase “ezer kenegdo” implies a strong, equal, and indispensable companion, one who stands alongside the man as a powerful ally. • Not Subordinate, but Strong: The concept of “ezer” portrays women as capable, competent, and strong individuals, created to be a vital force, a necessary force of strength, aid, and leadership. This understanding challenges traditional interpretations that have diminished the role of women based on a limited understanding of “helper”. In essence, when God describes women as “ezer kenegdo,” He is highlighting their inherent strength, vital contribution, and equal partnership with men in fulfilling their shared purpose and responsibility.

Episode 5 of the His helpmeet podcast ‘The Virtuous wife’ series is about to drop. In this episode we will be featuring a beautiful sister in the Lord Pene known formally as @penelope_mrsmataia. She will be sharing about her insecurities before coming to Christ and how important it is for a woman to know her identity in Christ. Her journey is encouraging and she highlights the importance of understanding the fear of Lord which is reflected in the passage Proverbs 31:30 Charm is deceptive, and beauty does not last; but a woman who fears the LORD will be greatly praised. Her vulnerability is a blessing and what a witness of a fully surrendered life unto the Lord. Watch this space and continue to be encouraged & continue to walk faithfully unto the Lord. ~Romans 12:1-2 I appeal to you therefore, brothers, by the mercies of God, to present your bodies as a living sacrifice, holy and acceptable to God, which is your spiritual worship. Do not be conformed to this world, but be transformed by the renewal of your mind, that by testing you may discern what is the will of God, what is good and acceptable and perfect. ~Colossians 3:1-4 If then you have been raised with Christ, seek the things that are above, where Christ is, seated at the right hand of God. Set your minds on things that are above, not on things that are on earth. For you have died, and your life is hidden with Christ in God. When Christ who is your life appears, then you also will appear with him in glory.

🐍 You can’t make this stuff up. ⚔️ @christia__deshields and I went for a walk in the park this morning. As I was walking, I noticed something stuck to the bottom of my shoe. I looked down and saw this red serpent pin and immediately started laughing. What’s wild is that Christia had been praying about stomping on serpents the night before. 🤯 #helpmeet Our family has gone through so much this year, but we have pledged our allegiance to Jesus and won’t back down. We take communion often and hold the blood over our head as it’s the highest authority. “Behold, I have given you authority to tread on serpents and scorpions, and over all the power of the enemy, and nothing shall hurt you.” ‭‭Luke‬ ‭10‬:‭19‬ ‭ESV‬‬
