Look to the sotry Niccolò Machiavelli (1469–1527) was an Italian diplomat, political philosopher, historian, and writer of the Renaissance period. Born in Florence, Italy, he became one of the most influential thinkers in political theory and realism. In 1498, Machiavelli was appointed to a senior diplomatic position in the Florentine Republic. During his career, he traveled across Europe and observed powerful rulers, military strategies, and political systems. His direct exposure to politics shaped his practical and often controversial views on leadership and power. After the return of the Medici family to power in 1512, Machiavelli was removed from office, imprisoned, and tortured under suspicion of conspiracy. Upon his release, he withdrew from political life and devoted himself to writing. His most famous work, The Prince (1513), became one of the most important political books in history. In it, Machiavelli argued that rulers must sometimes act immorally to maintain stability and power. He emphasized realism over idealism and introduced the idea that the ends can justify the means in politics. Beyond The Prince, he wrote Discourses on Livy, The Art of War, and several plays and historical works. His ideas laid the foundation for modern political science and realism. Machiavelli died in 1527 in Florence, but his legacy remains timeless. Today, the term “Machiavellian” describes cunning, strategic, and power-focused behavior — reflecting the enduring impact of his thought. #Machiavelli #NiccoloMachiavelli #ThePrince #PoliticalPhilosophy #Leadership

I saw this costume at the launch of Capturing A Queen at Hever and I knew I had to film it. This is the coronation dress worn by Natalie Dormer as Anne Boleyn in The Tudors and it is stunning. So did they get the coronation right
The historian answer is complicated. For 1533, we can name the big headline details from contemporary descriptions.
For the procession, Anne is described in white cloth of gold, with her hair worn loose.
For the coronation itself, she is described in purple velvet trimmed with ermine. The show goes in a different direction visually. The costume designer used antique hand spun silver fabric for Anne’s coronation gown, which tells you immediately this is not a reconstruction of what she wore. It is a modern interpretation. And that is why I love seeing it in an exhibition at Hever Castle.
Because it reminds us that Anne is always being remade.
Not only by her enemies and allies in the 1530s, but by us, too. Anne is never just Anne. She is a mirror. So tell me, did The Tudors shape the Anne Boleyn you carry in your head? Also I highly recommend Capturing A Queen at Hever Castle.

Ok more seriously, who is who and what actually happened. If you don’t know who I am, I’m Dr Estelle Paranque, a historian, published author with Penguin UK and Hachette US and a queenship expert. In this scene we have Henry VIII, introducing his new queen and wife Catherine Howard, to his ex queen and wife Anne of Cleves. Now here is the real timeline and the real context. Anne of Cleves arrives in England at the very end of December 1539. Henry meets her for the first time on 1 January 1540, at Rochester, and it is immediately obvious that he is disappointed. They still marry on 6 January 1540. Six months later, Henry wants out. The marriage is annulled on 9 July 1540. Anne does not fight it. And that decision is everything. Because instead of being cast off and sent away, Anne is kept in England, given an excellent settlement, several houses, and a new public identity at court: the King’s sister. Catherine Howard is the new queen. Henry marries her on 28 July 1540, barely weeks after the annulment. So when did Anne of Cleves and Catherine Howard actually meet? Catherine was in Anne of Cleves’s household when she was queen, so they were not strangers. But the clear public moment of Anne paying respect to Catherine as queen happens in early January 1541 at Hampton Court, when Anne comes to court for New Year. It is historically accurate. Anne shows everyone that she accepts the new order. That is why this scene is funny, but also why it is serious. Anne survives Henry VIII by doing something incredibly hard at a Tudor court: she makes herself useful, agreeable, and untouchable, without giving up her dignity. And the irony is brutal. Anne outlives Henry. She outlives Catherine Howard too. So yes, when the ex is happy to be THE ex.And it is so iconic.

The book shown in the video is Maynard’s Josephus — a translation of the writings of Flavius Josephus, a first-century Jewish historian writing around 91 A.D. Josephus was not a Christian. In fact, he was a Jewish Roman historian writing for a Roman audience. Yet in his historical record, he makes direct reference to Jesus of Nazareth, His crucifixion under Pontius Pilate, and the early movement of His followers. This matters because Josephus is an extra-biblical source — meaning his testimony exists outside of the Bible. His writings confirm that: • Jesus was a real historical person • He was known as a teacher • He was crucified under Roman authority • His followers continued after His death This places Jesus firmly within documented history, not myth or legend. Christianity did not begin in a vacuum. It emerged in real places, among real people, under real Roman rule — and even non-Christian historians recorded it. Faith may go beyond history, but it never contradicts it. 📖 “These things were not done in a corner.” (Acts 26:26) @truthtalk.podcast #jesus #god #faith #fyp #jesuschrist
