GUEl imping es la práctica de reemplazar una pluma rota de un ave con otra, denominada pluma donante, de una muda anterior del mismo animal o de otro animal de la misma especie o de una especie diferente. El imping se realiza principalmente en aves rapaces (especialmente halcones utilizados para cetrería ), aunque también se aplica en aves marinas , córvidos y otros tipos de aves en centros de rehabilitación . No es doloroso para las aves, ya que las plumas son estructuras muertas hechas de queratina , que es de lo que están hechos el cabello y las uñas humanas . El imping solo es posible en plumas parcialmente rotas o dañadas, no en plumas que se han caído por completo, y solo se usa para plumas de vuelo en el ala y para rectrices (plumas de la cola). Tampoco se puede aplicar en plumas de sangre (plumas en desarrollo) hasta que estén completamente desarrolladas y ya no tengan un suministro de sangre dentro de ellas.
Después de un tiempo, la pluma imping mudará naturalmente y crecerá una nueva en su lugar. El imping puede ayudar a un ave silvestre que de otro modo tendría que permanecer un período considerable bajo cuidado hasta que le crezca una nueva pluma sana. Sin embargo, el imping requiere precisión y habilidad, ya que una pluma imping incorrectamente puede causar hematomas e irritación y afectar al ave después de su liberación, pudiendo incluso llegar a ser perjudicial para su propia supervivencia.

👉 Este banco se utiliza para realizar injertos de plumas —una técnica conocida como imping— que permite ayudar a aves en rehabilitación a recuperar el vuelo sin tener que esperar meses a que les crezcan naturalmente.
Cada pluma se limpia, clasifica y conserva cuidadosamente por especie y tipo, formando una herramienta fundamental para mejorar la recuperación y bienestar de las aves que llegan a la reserva. 💚
