PA🥶Journey into ancient ice.❄️
This mesmerizing footage reveals a drilling rig descending deep inside an Antarctic glacier, unlocking ice that may be up to 5 million years old.
Photographer Martin Froger Silva spent weeks at a remote Antarctic field camp alongside the U.S. National Science Foundation Center for Oldest Ice Exploration team, documenting their mission to uncover Earth’s climate history preserved in frozen time.
On the final day of the expedition, he mounted a camera to the drill and captured this breathtaking descent through layers of ancient ice.
“We were all in awe of the beauty of this ancient ice,” Froger shared. “These ice cores are now on their way home, where scientists will study them to deepen our understanding of Earth’s rich history.”
Every layer tells a story. Every discovery helps us protect the future of our blue planet.
