WIWhen I first interrailed in my early 20s, I was amazed at how many Dutch and German families were travelling together by train. I’d never been interrailing as a kid – none of my friends had either – we grew up on beach holidays and that was the “done” thing.
But watching families play Uno, kids colouring, lunchboxes being unpacked – it felt so romantic and ideal to me. I remember thinking, if I ever have kids, I want to do that.
I spoke about it often when Stella was a baby but waited until she was older and past the pram years. This year we finally did it, just us two – and it was magical. ✨
I know culturally British families lean towards Disney or beach resorts, but if there’s one message I’d share it’s this: think about alternative holidays. There’s something so special about seeing the world from a train carriage. 🚆 And with another rail trip already planned, I can’t wait to be back on the rails again.
