Kaaterskill Falls is one of the most popular hikes in Upstate New York and one of the tallest waterfalls in New York State.
There are three ways to see the falls:
1. Kaaterskill Falls Viewing Platform: A short 0.5 mile hike from Laurel House Road for a top-down view (very easy)
2. Kaaterskill Upper Falls: Follow the trail to the base of the upper falls from Laurel House Road. This hike is about 1.5 miles and involves a lot of stairs and steeper sections. You NEED microspikes in winter and spring
3. Kaaterskill Lower Falls: Continue following the trail from the Upper Falls down to the base of the lower falls
⚠️ There have been fatal accidents on these trails. It REQUIRES proper footwear. Do NOT attempt it without sturdy boots AND traction devices, if necessary. You can also hire a guide to show you around

It’s an out-and-back 2 mile trail, but don’t let that fool you — it’s steep (especially at the start). Hike just one mile in and you’ll see the most impressive waterfalls.
