I made this video to show what happens when you try to scale AI without identity as the foundation. One version is chaos. Here's your quick Shadow AI safety checklist: ✓ Never paste client names, emails, or personal information into public AI tools ✓ Don't upload contracts, financials, or proprietary documents ✓ Avoid using AI for anything covered by NDAs or compliance requirements ✓ When in doubt, ask IT first—it takes 30 seconds and prevents months of cleanup The rule is simple: If you wouldn't post it publicly on social media, don't paste it into a free AI tool. We’ve gone from Shadow IT to Shadow AI - but what do you actually do about it? I spent the day at Okta’s Showcase Event in New York City and here’s everything I learned in under 2 minutes. There’s three questions every company should answer: 1. Where are my agents? Most companies have no idea what agents are actually running in their environment. Okta’s Shadow AI Agent Discovery automatically detects every agent and shows you exactly what they have access to and the blast radius if something goes wrong. 2. What can they connect to? Right now agents are connecting to apps through hardcoded integrations that IT has zero visibility into.
