Double tap if you want more gameschool ideas and be sure to save this & share with a preschool mom friend Here are three high energy games to play to help kids learn letter sounds: 1. Simon says- kids LOVE this game and it’s always a silly and goofy way to work on both sounds, letter recognition, AND listening skills. Call out a sound and an action for kids to follow like: “Simon says to touch the letter mmmm with your nose” 2. Feed the letter- you can play this game as a scavenger hunt or make it easier and have kids choose from 2-3 objects and differentiate their first sounds. Just feed the “basket” the item that starts with the right letter! 3. Sound dash- this is great to work on identifying sounds in words- call out a word and have kids race to the letter that it starts with. If you want the Pictograph cards we use comment “cards” and I’ll send them 🫶🏻 #preschoolerlife #homeschool #scienceofreading #preschoolactivity

A 10/10 learning game I honestly didn’t expect my daughter to love this much. She kept asking to play it again and again and even her 8-year-old brother joined in (just with different words). This is why I love learning through play. Games like this build phonics, sound recognition and early reading skills without it feeling like a lesson and when kids enjoy it, the learning sticks. 🤍 SAVE THIS AND DO GIVE IT A TRY.

Letter + Sound Swat I grabbed some paper, wrote down some letters, and scattered them across my living room floor. Then, I grabbed a fun item that I knew my daughter would enjoy using as she practiced her letters + sounds... a fly swatter! We played this game 3 ways: Round 1: say the letter Round 2: say the sound Round 3: say a word that begins with the letter Once she gets the letter, sound, or word.. she swats the correct one with the fly swatter. We didn't solely rely on flashcards. We didn't pull out a worksheet. We played a fun game to work both fine and gross motor development. And play is powerful. ✨🙌 Playful learning works in young children because it aligns with how the developing brain naturally learns. 🧠 Play activates several cognitive systems simultaneously, which strengthens learning and retention. #playbasedlearning #phonicsactivity #lettersandsounds #preschoolprep #kindergartenprep

Try this SIMPLE game to practice letter sounds with your preschooler ⤵️ 1️⃣ Lay out 3 letter sound cards on the table. If you don’t have sound cards, write the letters on paper or a whiteboard. For example: a, n, t 2️⃣ Say a sound and have your child point to the letter that makes the sound. For example: “Point to the letter that says /t/.” 3️⃣ Repeat a few times with the different sounds. Change up the order and speed that you say the sounds. 💪 Increase the Challenge: For step 2, ask your child to cover the two cards that DON’T make the sound you say. For example: “Cover the cards that don’t say /t/.” 📌 SAVE this post and FOLLOW for more easy at-home learn to read activities. Easy Blending & Segmenting Practice 👉 Move from sounds to words! 1. Choose a simple CVC (consonant-vowel-consonant) word containing letter sounds your child has already learned. For example: mat /m/ /a/ /t/ 2. Write each letter of the word on a separate note card or piece of paper (or use letter-sound cards to create the word). 3. Lay out the cards on a table or other surface to create the word. 4. Move the cards apart to separate out the individual sounds. Practice each sound by itself. 5. Then move the cards back together and practice blending the individual sounds together to say the word. 💡 Tip: It’s okay to draw out the individual sounds at first, then demonstrate how you shorten the sounds to smoothly blend them together. ✨ SAVE this tip and SHARE with a friend who has an early reader at home! I had a student who struggled with everything phonics. Centers that other kids ran to? They avoided. Small group work? Shut down. But when we played Go Fish? 🎣 They jumped right in. They worked to read those words. They WANTED to make the match. And that’s when it hit me… The magic wasn’t in the word list. It was in the game. The focus shifted from “Who knows this word?” to “Who can make the match?” And that tiny shift took ALL the pressure off. That’s why I believe so deeply in play based learning. It gives every single student an entry point. It lowers the stress. It builds confidence. And the learning still happens. 💛 My Heart Word Games Bundle was created for exactly this reason. These hands on games help your students practice high frequency words in a way that feels FUN, not intimidating. Perfect for centers, small groups, or partner play. If you want heart word practice that feels like play, not pressure… Comment HEART and I’ll send you the link. 💌 #literacy4littlelearners #kindergarten #kindergartenclassroom #kindergartencenters #heartwords #playbasedlearning
