BRWhen blending new words feels a bit high pressure, try this game.
You might remember the blending word game I shared the other day. Here’s how to make it work for beginner readers.
Write the words on magnetic tiles.
Add sound buttons under each sound.
Toss the pom-pom.
Where it lands…
your child presses the sound buttons, says the sounds and blends the word.
Read it.
Erase it.
Next turn.
Sound buttons help children see and hear each sound, which makes blending much easier. Turning it into a game makes practicing feel safe and fun, not high risk. 💖
My tip is to start with simple CVC words (sat, rat, mat, rip, sit), then adapt it for any sounds or spelling patterns they’re learning.
One simple game.
So many ways to build reading confidence.
Save this for later and share with a parent of a beginner reading. You can help your child learn to read!
