REHere’s a fun one about the series: in the show Reacher, the actor who plays Jack Reacher, Alan Ritchson, actually matches the physical description from the original Jack Reacher novel series almost perfectly. In the books written by Lee Child, Reacher is described as about 6'5" and around 250 pounds—huge and intimidating.
That detail was a big reason the TV show was made after the earlier Jack Reacher movies starring Tom Cruise got criticism from some fans. Cruise is a great actor, but he’s much shorter than the book version of Reacher. The series leaned heavily into casting someone with the same towering build as the character, which fans of the books absolutely loved.
So the show didn’t just reboot the character—it basically tried to make the most book-accurate version of Reacher ever. Pretty satisfying for longtime readers. 😄

CO📚 At this point I’ve read so many Jack Reachers I’m fairly certain I could ghostwrite one.
• Reacher arrives in a small town
• Uncovers a nefarious plot run by a local businessman/gangster
• Teams up with a local cop/lawyer/ex-spook
• Kills all the bad guys and saves the town
• Leaves on a Greyhound bus
Repeat
And yet… here I am. Book 30. Why?
It’s not the paint-by-numbers plots. It’s the character. It’s Jack Reacher.
Maybe the greatest modern crime-fiction hero-protagonist (is that a thing? It is now) in modern literature.
He treads very close to the line and is quick to violence… but he (nearly) always has the moral high ground.
He’s funny. He’s kind. He helps the little guy. He’s weird. He lives an unconventional life of freedom, completely unburdened by society’s expectations.
I think we’d all like to be a little bit more Reacher...maybe with slightly less violence and definitely less coffee.
If I’m being totally honest, I’m more excited by the TV adaptation these days. Reacher still feels fresh three seasons in, and Alan Ritchson is basically the Reacher I always imagined.
