I was very excited to come across this school on Banggai cardinal fish today jn Lembeh Strait. The black and white stripes and spots of the Banggai contrast nicely against the bright color of the hammer coral. Banggai cardinals are active and energetic, constantly swimming and exploring their surroundings. These fish display social behavior and are known for their tight-knit communities. However, there is a predator that is not too concerned about the spines of the Sea Urchins! The Mimic octopus contorts its body to resemble a specific marine creature! When it wants to deter predators from getting close, it can magically shape-shift into a ‘sea snake’ or the venomous lionfish, or even the powerful ‘mantis-shrimp’. When it wants to travel undetected it just shifts shape into a ‘jellyfish’ or anemone!
