Die Antwort, die ich so lange gesucht habe?
Nicht ganz – aber irgendwie doch ein bisschen. Zum Anfang sei gesagt: Krebs ist immer ein multifaktorielles Geschehen.
Ein einzelner Gendefekt löst selten allein eine Krebserkrankung aus –
aber er kann den entscheidenden Unterschied machen. 🔬 Was bedeutet das konkret in meinem Fall? Die Ausprägung des Gendefekts wird in Grad 1 bis 5 klassifiziert: * Grad 1: leichte Mutation, geringe Funktionsstörung * Grad 4: vollständiger Funktionsverlust – kein funktionsfähiges ATM-Protein mehr vorhanden Ich habe diesen Defekt in heterozygoter Ausführung, also nur auf einem Chromosom.
Wären beide Chromosomen betroffen (biallelischer Defekt),
würde das ganz andere Auswirkungen auf mein Leben haben –
das würde hier aber den Rahmen sprengen. 🧬 Kurz erklärt: Das ATM-Gen ist in unserem Körper dafür verantwortlich,
entartete Zellen zu erkennen und DNA-Schäden zu reparieren.
Und spätestens da sollte man hellhörig werden,
wenn es um das Thema Krebs geht. Durch den einseitigen Defekt funktioniert dieser Mechanismus nicht mehr so effizient –
und das kann zu einem erhöhten Risiko für verschiedene Krebsarten führen,
sowohl bei soliden Tumoren (z. B. Darm, Magen, Leber)
als auch bei hämatologischen Neoplasien (Leukämien, Lymphome). 📊 In Zahlen bedeutet das: * Brustkrebs: 2–3-fach erhöht * Prostatakrebs: ca. 2-fach erhöht * Pankreaskrebs: 5–10-fach erhöht * Darmkrebs: 1,5–2-fach erhöht Ergänzend möchte ich erwähnen,
dass meine Mama denselben Gendefekt hat –
und seit 45 Jahren krebsfrei lebt.
Man kann eben nicht alles rational erklären. Das Wissen um diesen Defekt ist beängstigend –
aber auch praktisch zugleich.
Weil es hilft, Vorsorgeuntersuchungen gezielter zu planen
und die Strahlenbelastung in der Diagnostik oder Therapie
bewusster anzupassen. 🩺 Wissen gibt mir keine Kontrolle über alles – aber über das, was ich beeinflussen kann.
