DB polling doesn’t scale. Higher frequency = massive DB load + network/processing overhead. Precision gets limited by poll interval.
Solution: 2-Layer Architecture
• Database → durability (source of truth)
• Delay Queue → precision timing
How it works:
Job saved in DB.
If due <5 mins → pushed to delay queue instantly.
Cron (every 5 mins) fetches upcoming jobs → pushes to queue with exact delay.
Workers poll queue → job becomes visible exactly at execution time.
Tech: Amazon SQS
Native delay delivery, auto-scale, HA, DLQ support.
Result: Durable + precise + horizontally scalable 🚀
