If you’re postpartum and thinking about returning to exercise, here’s what you should know before you get started: 💌 Book your 6-8 week postnatal checkup, ideally a comprehensive Mummy MOT with a women’s health physio. This is so important (and often underrated) for assessing your post-birth healing, pelvic floor function, ab separation, and overall physical and mental readiness to return to exercise. 💌 Start with postnatal-friendly, rehab-focused movement that helps you restrengthen your pelvic floor, reconnect your abs, activate your glutes, and build a strong foundation to work from. I’d recommend starting with low impact exercise before graduating to anything higher intensity. 💌 The postpartum period involves ongoing hormonal, muscular and joint changes for at least 12 months. It’s completely normal for energy levels, strength and general capacity to fluctuate during this time. Adjusting your workouts accordingly will support long-term progress. Focus on consistency over intensity. After five years away, moving back to Cape Town has felt incredibly special. I’ve been so excited to continue these community meet ups and to keep building what the Healthy ish lifestyle really means to me, low impact movement, lots of sunshine, greens, presence and connection. This isn’t about fitness, perfect bodies or ticking boxes. It’s about the experience. About doing things that make you feel happy and alive, yes, things that naturally make you look wonderful too, but in a way that feels fun, warm, enjoyable and sustainable. And when you add connection into the mix, gosh, it changes everything. This was our fifth walk. Some walks bring 70 women, others bring 10, and truly, it doesn’t matter. Every single one of you means something to me. For this one, we met in Mouille Point and walked through Granger Bay, about 5km, with a little gentle jogging to lift our heart rates and feel that beautiful oxygen moving through our bodies. It was bliss. Along the way we had meaningful conversations, shared little educational moments, and enjoyed some delicious snacks, prizes and a few thoughtful goodies to take home. One of the most magical moments was spotting dolphins, such a beautiful, unexpected treat that made everyone pause and just take it all in. We stopped by the market for coffee and green juice, then continued walking together, present and connected. If you’re keen to do more of these, let me know. We can aim for once a month, change locations or keep it simple, whatever feels right. I’d really love your thoughts. Thank you so much to everyone who made the effort to come.
