CASpoiler: loyalty programs aren’t about loyalty 😅
Most grocery stores run loyalty programs that track what you buy.
That information can be used to build profiles of your shopping habits, combined with other datasets, and sometimes shared with outside partners for advertising, analytics, or pricing strategies. Stores say it’s to help us have a better shopping experience but @traderjoes has a different approach. They’ve said they don’t run loyalty programs and don’t track individual customer purchases because they can just look at what’s selling on the shelf.
If you want to minimize grocery tracking:
• Skip loyalty programs when possible
• Avoid giving your real phone number at checkout
• Use email aliases instead of your main email
• & Turn off tracking in grocery store apps
